Biased Times...

So the New York times has finally admitted that it violated its own advertising policies by 1) printing a personal attact ad and 2) giving Moveon.org a discount for running the ad. From the Washington Post article (emphasis mine):

Clark Hoyt said in his column that MoveOn was not entitled to the cheaper "standby" rate for advertising that can run any time over the following week because the Times did promise that the ad would run Sept. 10, the day Petraeus began his congressional testimony. "We made a mistake," Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis was quoted as saying.

MoveOn, saying it had no reason to believe it was paying "anything other than the normal and usual charge," said yesterday that it would send the Times $77,000 to make up the difference.

The Times also violated its own advertising policy, which bars "attacks of a personal nature," Hoyt reported. He wrote that the episode "gave fresh ammunition to a cottage industry that loves to bash The Times as a bastion of the 'liberal media.' "

Is he actually trying to imply that the paper wasn't being biased when they allowed the ad to run in the first place for a discount?

And then there's this business of MoveOn sending the NYT $77,000 since they didn't know they got a discount. Blatant biasness from a supposedly "objective" paper is one thing, but why in the world would an organization spend an extra $77k when they don't have to! It's proof that the Looney Left is even crazier than most people realize. Do we really want someone they support to be President, tossing away our money like that? Oh...guess that's not much different than we have now...

Julie (11:40:54 PM): I love Goldschlager though
Me (11:44:30 PM): hmm
Me (11:44:48 PM): that doesn't sound as cool to drink as whiskey thouhh
Julie (11:41:28 PM): Have you had it?
Me (11:45:05 PM): i don't know
Julie (11:41:39 PM): It's cinnamon

Me (11:52:53 PM): that's only because you don't have to make the damn things

Rachel Lucas kicks ass...

For those who haven't heard, Sally Fields went on some stupid ass rant when she won an emmy about how "if mothers ruled the world there'd be no goddamn wars" and shit. Well, I brushed it off, being the guy that I am and used to stupid celebrities making stupid comments. I was browsing the blogosphere today and came across Rachel Lucas going apeshit over Sally Fields, so I thought I would share this rant with my loyal readers...all zero of you.

I really agree with her 100%, but she raised some good points that I never thought of before. She points out that it was men that tended to spearhead the creation of new technology and engineering feats. Now, sociologists would probably argue that this is because men were in power and oppressing women. Ms. Lucas disagrees, apparently, and now I've thought about it and applying my intense scientific training, I think I agree with her.

What it comes down to is this: Men have more testosterone. More testosterone means men have the very strong, undeniable urge to do stupid shit. Stupid shit leads bad things happening 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time, it leads to great scientific and engineering discoveries. Nearly 99.9% of all fundamental science is driven by the scientist wanting to try something that is most likely going to fail, but is being done for no other reason that "wow, that sounds kinda cool...let's what happens when we do this..." I.e., the science is driven by men and women wanting to do stupid shit. The more fundamental the science, the more men involved, the stupider and more dangerous the shit they do becomes. Hence, why I am in physics...

How many taser shocks does it take...

This story on yahoo about a 56 year old, wheelchair bound woman who died after being shocked ten times by police using tasers brings up some important questions:

Why is it that it takes 10 shocks from two cops to bring down a wheelchair bound, 56 year old woman? Are cops getting too lazy? I mean, two against one in a wheelchair. All they had to do was let her keep swinging those knives around and she'd had gotten tired before too long, but noooo. The conversation probable went something like this (imagining the two cops off of the movie Superbad): "Grandma, we have donuts waiting. Please drop the knives...We're gonna taser you...HAHA! Watch her shake! Do it again!...Damn, maybe she is a tough old lady. Shock her again!...Not so tough now grandma!...Grandma? Ooops..."

How many shocks did it take to bring down this Ron Paul supporter at a John Kerry rally (video here via IMAO)? Was she really that much tougher than him? Do we need to turn up the juice on these tasers to make them more effective?

(Click below to read more)

Actually, why bother with tasers? Why not just shoot more people instead? I'm referring, of course, to Ron Paul supporters, hippies, and anyone on the Looney Left, including the terrorists, and Christians who want to take away my alcohol. Shoot them and let the old ladies in wheelchairs live, please.

Execution by electrocution is no longer considered a "humane" way of killing a murderer, but apparently it's ok to use on old handicapped ladies with mental problems...ten times. What does this say about the people we value in society?

The obvious, most important moral of this story is that a single, crazy, handicapped, old lady is a bigger threat to society than all those Ron Paul supporters who believe in crazy conspiracy theories. And they wonder why we dismiss them so easily...maybe they should take some lessons from grandma...

Why Joe Klein is a disagrace...

So Joe Klein, blogging for Time, writes a blog titled "Why Drudge is a disagrace". For those who don't know, he's referring to Matt Drudge and the Drudgereport, talking about how Drudge is shameless and misleading in the headlines he posts. In particular, he was taking offense at a photo and headline showing a "three-quarters crazed Hillary" and words implying that her plan would require proof of insurance to get a job. Hillary, in her defense, never said that exactly, but only alluded to it.

Amusingly, Drudge then posted a link to Klein's blog entry under the Hillary story, ... which has problably driven up traffic to Klein's blog by an order of magnitude. That's the love-hate relationship that many in the mainstream media have with Drudge. They may not like his politics or his style, but they love it when they get an article posted on his site.

Readers of the Drudge Report, like myself, know that we are getting news and commentary posted on the site from a variety of different sources, many of which I would never have heard of or read without first seeing them on site. Matt Drudge is a conservative by reputation, yes, but his site, as for as I can tell, is completely bipartisan in who it posts dirt on. If it's newsworthy, it makes the site. This is also means that readers get a well-rounded view of things that are not just filtered by the mainstream media. I have found that stories that I read or Drudge precedes the same story on CNN.com's front page by over a day!

Those on the Left hate Drudge because he doesn't hesitate to post stories undermining their incredibly narrow-minded, socialistic worldview. By staying in the bounds of traditional media and left-wing blogs, they never have to face the uncomfortable possibility that they're wrong. Those on the far-right might be equally narrow-minded and stubborn, but then again, those people have to pretty much shut themselves off from the outside world in order to not have their positions challenged.

In any case, if Matt Drudge wants to post a few "misleading" and sensationalized headlines, so bit it. He's not doing anything different than any other journalist who shows their bias and sensationalistic writing in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

Or is this the WORST toupee EVER, worn by Iran's Foreing Minister. I mean, hell, if you're that important for a country, at least don't wear something that looks like THAT! How do they ever expect to intimidate anyone? And if I'm wrong and that's his real hair, I think I'd shave it off...

Ron Paul and his supporters...a great match

I was driving home the other day from school/work and for the second or third time in recent months I saw several Ron Paul supporters standing on the corner holding up signs. Gotta hand it to them Ron Paul supporters, they are persistent in supporting a candidate that has absolutely no chance in getting elected. I saw Dr. Paul on the last Republican debate and I have to say, he is by far the most entertaining candidate. Anyone who can support disbanding the FBI and CIA with a straight face is either a great comedian or freakin' nuts. Perhaps that's why his supporters like him so much? I knew I was voting for Fred Thompson the moment he made that video reply to Michael Moore and turned around with a big ol' Cuban cigar in his mouth. Maybe they like Dr. Paul because if his sense of humor...or maybe they're as looney as he is. The Left has their nutcases and the Right apparenly has ours...not to say that ALL Ron Paul supporters are nuts. But when you hear them (the supporters and the candidate) talk about conspiracies (like this one or this one) and such, it makes you wonder if you really want to support that candidate...

Thought of the evening...

For some reason, most people have an easy time opening up to me and talking with me about anything, including themselves. And if they're upset about something, many tend to feel comfortable talking to me about it and I'm comfortable listening. I don't always know the right thing to say (and often say the wrong thing), but for some reason people talk to me.

So why is it that when I'm having a hard time with something I tend to withdraw from everyone with a few exceptions? I have people willing to listen to me and... talk with me, but there's very few people I actually feel comfortable talking to about things. It takes a lot for me to open up to someone. I guess it's because I like to be the strong. Also, I think in my experience, when someone opens up to me, we get closer. When I open up to them, however, I end up losing them not long after for different reasons...

My guess as to Osama bin Laden's message

He's supposed to release a video on 9/11/07, but my anonymous sources have released a preview of the message.

Anyone else have any insight into what he's going to say?

If anyone heard or read the transcript for Osama's video, then you would see that I was pretty much correct on my prediction...

Some people should just be shot...

I propose changing the law to allow shooting of people (after conviction of course) just for doing things that make one realizes just how slimey humans can be. For example, this guy and thew horrible mom following this story are the latest of those I'm labeling "should just be shot":

From Foxnews, via AP

Father Arrested After Leaving Toddler in Car at Brothel Parking Lot

PATRICK, Nev. —

An Oregon man is in custody after allegedly leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a car in 95-degree heat in the parking lot of a brothel east of Reno.

The Storey County sheriff's office said Lucien Hoffman of Bend, Ore., was being held in the country jail in lieu of $40,000 bail on charges of child neglect.

Hoffman told deputies he was attending a function at the Mustang Ranch brothel off Interstate 80, 15 miles east of Reno.

A brothel security guard found the child crying inside the car on Saturday and took her indoors until authorities arrived.

The toddler was treated for dehydration and released to the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services.

Sad, very sad. But what about this woman, whom I think shooting her is just too damn good for her:

Again, from Fox, via AP:

California Infant Dies After Mom Uses Meth Pipe Swab to Clean His Nose

ONTARIO, Calif. —

An 8-month-old boy has died after his mother told police she accidentally cleaned his nose with a cotton swab used earlier to clean a methamphetamine pipe.

Samuel Reta of Ontario was declared dead Friday at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner's office.

Reta had been in a coma since police responding to a child-not-breathing emergency call early Thursday found him in full cardiac arrest. The baby also has a fractured skull, broken arm and pneumonia, police said.

Elizabeth Reta, 27, was arrested Thursday and booked for investigation of felony child abuse.

Her boyfriend Juan Antonio Sanchez Jr., who surrendered to police later that night, was also arrested on suspicion of abusing the child, officials said.

It was not immediately known if Reta and Sanchez faced additional charges now that they boy had died, police Sgt. Joseph Giallo said Monday.

Reta had told police she gave the baby a bath, and then used the cotton swab to clean his nose because it was itching, police said. She said she didn't know the swab had been used to clean a methamphetamine pipe.

It wasn't clear when the baby suffered the broken bones. Police said some of the injuries may be the result of Sanchez's attempt to rouse the baby from his seizure.

Let's get the firing squad ready...

Louis L'Amour quotes: Bendigo Shafter

From Bendigo Shafter:

There can be no living together without understanding, and understanding means compromise. Compromise is not a dirty word, it is the cornerstone of civilization, just as politics is the art of making civilization work. Men do not and cannot and hopefully will never think alike, hence each must yield a little in order to avoid war, to avoid bickering. Men and women meet together and adjust their differences; this is compromise. He who stands unyielding and immovable upon a principle is often a fool, and often bigoted, and usually left standing alone with his principle while other men adjust their differences and go on.

Another:

Everyone hopes for an immediate solution, but the only solutions to social problems come through time. We in America always believe we have only to pass a law and everything will be changed, but the truth is nothing is changed. There is only one more law upon the books to be ignored or broken. People only obey a law the majority have already decided to obey, and it must be a very large majority.

Simply genius...
